As a bassist, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to cover bass lines that are played on a synth. This section discusses some of the equipment and playing requirements to make this music sound authentic. The first three examples have a honky, almost hollow sounding tone. You can get this sound by moving your right hand closer to the bridge. Example G1
Example G2
Example G3
Example G4
This example needs to be played accurately as there are sixteenth notes involved. If you relax your left hand after playing the high A notes then they will stop ringing which is essential if you are to keep these notes short. Using a bass effects unit would help to reproduce the synth bass tone. Example G5
This example sounds best using an alternate picking technique. Example G6
You would have to concede that you can't reproduce the tone exactly like Example G6. There are also additional sounds in the mix like the subtle clicking noise. At least you can play the rhythm correctly as it is a consistent sixteenth-note pattern in the key of G.
