Place the hair of the bow on a string close to the frog.
Push down on the string using mainly the pressure of the thumb and pull the bow to the right.
Release the thumb pressure as soon as the bow starts moving so the bow can loosely ride the string vibration until it reaches the tip end of the bow hair.
During this motion the right-hand fingers should be pulled slightly straighter than they were in the cupped starting position, so the palm of the hand is not touching the butt end of the frog.
Carry out the same motions in reverse direction, i.e. to the left, this time, however, pushing the frog into the palm of the hand while arching the fingers.
Remember to keep the fingers almost straight on the downbow and quite arched on the
upbow. This ensures the best attack.
